i really dislike opera...

and avril lavigne and country music(although i have been known to happily partake in the alt-country stylings of blue rodeo and of course, wilco & sarah harmer), but mostly i detest opera...i cannot even pretend to enjoy it and believe me, i love to slap on the pretension as much as anyone, but i simply cannot do it when it comes to that gutteral war cry of a, no not the right word...phlegmy virtuoso...anyway, mainly i am just pissed that weekend at the opera has seemed to interfere with weekend edition...see, i told you i could put on the pretension when i wanted to...oh, but lest i come off too haughty let me make it known i don't contribute to public radio, that's right, never have, i am a pilfer of the public radio...yup, i am a public radio mooching, reality tv watching, consumer- whore, judgemental bitch! YEA ME!

Opera on the radio sucks. It makes baseball on TV seem awesome.

Opera is like baseball. It has to be seen live. The only opera I ever enjoyed was the one I saw at the Metropolitan Opera House in at Lincoln Center in New York City. You can tell I am a hick, because I didn't just call it he Met.

The pit conductor was some guy I had seen on album covers a lot, for regular orchestral music. Levine..? I think that was his name.

The singers/actors.. well, it was the Met, so I am positive they were awesome. I enjoyed the whole show immensely. It was a unique experience for me. I can see how people can love going to the opera, then once loving that, might love or like it on the radio, the way I used to tolerate baseball on the radio. I would still go to a baseball game anytime, and if I had to be in New York City, I think the Met would be as enjoyable as anything else I can think of experiencing on that island down there. As between the Met and, say, a Yankees game, the game is outside, but the opera has a guranteed ending. Hard to choose.

But opera on the weekend public radio blows. I hate it. Between the oil company ads for the opera and Click and Clack the Tappen brothers Car Talk... and then Garrison Keilor's weekly drunkalogue at 6PM... Saturday public radio pretty much sucks in my opinion...

Except for Weekend Edition with Scott Simon. I like Scott. I used to hate him, for his interview with Vaslav Havel. Too long a story for the end of a brief response to your radio opera comments.

mooching judgemental bitch!?

Reminds me of this outraged guy, complaining that so-and-so is a hypocrite. So-and-so's response: "Welcome to the Hypocrite club man, we're ALL hypocrites!"

His point was that all people commit almost all the worst sins, except maybe murder and some of the more extreme crimes. But the 7 deadly sins don't include murder for a reason! The reason is that we all are guilty of all the 7 deadly sins. It comes under the category of "imperfect" human.

I used to be shooting for saintly behavior in my life. No one appreciated it! I might have swung too far the other way now, some would definitely support that.

I am just saying, if you are a freeloading judgemental short-tempered person, I am damned glad to meet you! Welcome to the club. We've saved plenty of food and a place for you to sit and relax.

Except when the bitching is focused on my behavior (especially if I think it is unjustified), I like hearing people bitch. Shows they are alive.

you reminded me of Miss Saigon.. I forgot about that movie... I need to see it. I heard about it... I heard it was really heavy... I like heavy movies. To me, that is what movies are for.

*** tapping down the stairs to put Miss Saigon onto my Netflix queue ***

I hate it that I know there are movies I want to see, but I cannot remember what they are. And NO, this is not due to marijuana use!

I am not being defensive either.
